Solar Energy : The Future

These days the world is facing a major energy dilemma. Many of the natural resources that we have been using will eventually run out. As a result we have to continue to search for other sources of energy that are renewable. Solar energy is one of these sources which is renewable and sustainable. There are, however , many uses to solar energy and we should know more about it and how we can use this type of energy. There are two main methods to use the solar energy , the first method is called the photovoltaic method and the other is called the thermal method.

Primarily, solar energy is an energy comes from the sun, and as we know that solar energy is renewable and infinite. Because solar energy depends on the  sun we need a sunny area to use this kind of energy. So if we want to generate electrical energy from sun energy, we need special equipment to convert it, this equipment is called the “solar cell” which is made from silicon with specific structure. The group of solar cells are called the ” solar panel “. Solar energy is easy to use anywhere and it is so safe. The efficiency of solar panels is around 17%, which is a good percentage. It is easy to install solar panels anywhere with cheap cost, but if you want to buy a solar energy system for your home, for example, that will cost you too much. Solar energy is expensive. Solar panels do not need frequent maintenance. Gradually the usage of this energy is increasing around the world.

Another use for solar energy is by solar thermal method which uses the sun’s energy to directly generate heat. In thermal method we use solar panels which absorb heat from the sun, this collected heat warms water in tanks all throughout the day and we use heated water in our houses which still warm for night time.In this method we use tubes to collect sun’s energy these tubes called thermal collectors. There is another more popular method to collect heat from the sun and transfer it to water in tanks, which is available on the market nowadays, with many building designs. This method uses an anti-freeze liquid instead water which heated by sun.

On The other hand, there are some limitations on the use of solar energy. As we know Solar energy needs a special environment to work. To use the solar energy perfectly, we need a sunny area, not like other kind of energy, like wind energy which needs a windy area. So if one day there is no sun then you can’t get electricity, because of that you should use batteries back up to store the energy and use them when there is no sun in the cloudy days. you have to keep checking the solar panel to make sure that there is no dust on the surface .

Finally, solar energy is a  very important source of energy which is able to be converted into electricity using photovoltaic cells or heat using thermal collectors . Nowadays the world is looking toward solar energy as the primary source of energy in the future. As a result scientists should focus more attention on the development and refinement of this technology. Solar energy is an effective solution to major energy dilemma that the world is forcing.
